Title:

Flare

URL:

http://flare.prefuse.org/

Project Description:

Tools for interactive visualizations.

Flare is a collection of object classes written in the ActionScript 3 programming language and was designed to build interactive visualizations of basic charts, complex animations, network diagrams, treemaps, and so forth. They will run on the Web in the Adobe Flash player. Flare is open-source software built on top of Prefuse, a Java-based visualization toolkit. Flare applications can be developed in Adobe’s Flex Builder environment or by using the freely available Adobe Flex SDK. Flare and SpicyNodes share the same foundation in the ActionScript programming language, yet Flare classes are intended for use by more or less technically savvy users, whereas SpicyNodes implementations are created through a simple XML-based interface. The other primary differentiation is that Flare is built on ActionScript v3, while SpicyNodes is driven by ActionScript v2.
